Dubai International Airport - Terminal 1
I had a long weekend outside Dubai. I took this picture on Friday morning, at the Terminal 1 - Dubai International Airport. at that time, I was trying to catch my flight. This kiosk is dedicated for gold / jewellery. The Gold coloured palm is part of the interior decoration of the terminal 1.
I had prepared my posts for all days during my travel, but obviously I did something wrong while I was rushing. two posts were not able to published automatically. I hope I will not do the same mistake in future.

O for Owl
An art piece from Art Dubai 2014
O for Owl. Posted for ABC Wednesday. Please click for more posts for the letter O
Owls are quite famous with their specific shape, and mythical meanings in different cultures.
it is always interesting for me to see the same thing has different meanings in different culture.
Owls are one of those things.
In some culture it is considered as Bad Luck, death or messenger of bad news or upcoming death to you or to your family.
On the other hand, same Owls are considered as luck, wisdom in other cultures.
in some areas if you see any owl people think that death is nearby but in some cities they are the symbol of the city.
While preparing this post, I read the short life story about Eric Hosking. He was one of a few photographers who were able to earn money onyl taking pictures of birds.
The Owl, Eric was trying to take pictures of, brought bad luck and good luck to him.
Eric was working on photography but he got his real fame after the accident he had with the owl. He lost his left eye while taking a picture of Owl. After this accident, he published a book which called "An Eye for a Bird"

A cafe at The Walk, JBR (Jumeirah Beach Residence)
I haven't try the cafe but the way how it looks from outside is so nice. Bougainvillea is quite popular here. most of the time you can see them with flowers.
Here you can see my previous post of Bougainvillea I really like it when it is full with flowers.

N for Numbers
taken at Art Dubai 2013
Numbers are always mystical for many people. There are plenty different given meanings for each and every numbers.
such as 13 is the famous one with bad luck. Most of airlines do not have 13th row in their planes. Seat row numbers just jumped from 12 to 14 :) Yes, Emirates Airlines too.
or 7 is considered the luckiest number in Western culture as well as in Chinese culture.
or 666 it is associated with the beast.
many people seek the meaning of everything with numerology since early days of mathematics.
If they would read "the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" from Douglas Adams they would know the answer to the ultimate question of Life, the Universe and Everything. :)

the Beach
another view from the Beach mall at JBR - the walk.
they are very creative about naming :)
comparing the previous, I really like the new complex. even tough during construction, I was criticizing the project with saying "Mall at the beach? all those malls weren't enough?" but after the result, I am glad that they did it :)

art @ The Beach
The Beach is new complex recently opened at JBR. earlier this place was just sand and free parking space at the entrance of the beach. They built semi-open shopping mall. at the entrance there is big space for multi purpose. There was a holographic show at my previous visit, this time, there was a kind of art exhibition with the initiative of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority.

View from Burj Al Arab
Burj Al Arab is the forth tallest hotel in the world with the 321 m height. However 39% of the total height is made up of non occupiable space. It is located in an artificial island from Jumeirah beach and connected with private bridge.
The picture is taken at the top of the Burj Al Arab before sunset. You can see the hotel's shadow on the marina and partially on the beach.

Ghosts of JBR
Tonight, I went to JBR, after new arrangement it is really nice to spent time there but of course the traffic is always unpleasant.
I couldn't have a time to take picture of general view so I found this one from the archive.
You can see the vibe and the crowd of the JBR here.

M for Metro
M for Metro.
Dubai Metro is a driver-less, fully automated rail network. It is launched on 9 th of September 2009.
still network is quite weak but considering how they reached this level in a short time of period, it is impressive. Day by day it is getting more popular.
Actually in summer time, it is quite challenging to reach the nearest metro station. :)

Middle East Film & Comic Con
The Middle East Film and Comic-Con is one of the region's most anticipated event. This was amazing how people dressed up while they were visiting.
I decided to join my friends' programme at the last minute to visit Comic-con. I was planning to take tickets at the entrance. When we reached to the venue, we just shocked by the crowed. It was nearly impossible to wait for the ticket. Thanks to my friends I entered with their pre-purchased tickets.
MEFCC is the largest popular culture festival in the Middle East, focused on film, TV comic, manga, animation, collectibles and pop art. this is the third season and I believe next year it's gonna be bigger.
I am planning to post from here for next couple of days. It was amazing how people were creative about costumes and the art.

old wooden ships are carrying everything to the near cost / Africa / India or close countries. I saw so many TV, and electrical house appliances in these ships.
you can also see little bit better condition ship at the other side of the Creek. It is used for Dinner dhow cruise at the creek. at the far behind, you see world's tallest building Burj Khalifa.

L for Luxury
According to Merriam Webster dictionary, definition of luxury;
- a condition or situation of great comfort, ease, and wealth
- something that is expensive and not necessary
- something that is helpful or welcome and that is not usually or always available.
luxury is quite subjective thing even under the light of above definition. Everybody enjoy and has their own luxury staff. It might be Rolls Royce for someone or "chocolate cake at birthday" for another person.
For me; "spending less time in the traffic jam" is a kind of luxury that I experience (and appreciate) in Dubai. People who suffer from traffic can understand me easily. Without a hesitate I prefer this, rather than having a Rolls Royce :))

confused...
at the end of February there was an event for sand sculptures at the JBR. I took this picture at that time.
Actually I was planning to post this picture, Unfortunately blogger ruined my picture in somehow.
The exposure was changed and I couldn't post it.
I tried several times; saved in another program, cropped, not cropped, light adjusted or original settings, or save for web devices or even upload the original jpeg with original size and quality. then I gave up with that picture.
then second round stated. I tired another sunset photo, but again, the exposure and lights were changed while I uploaded. at the end of all efforts, I was feeling "confused".
by the way, blogger changed this picture's exposure as well. But I am done for tonight. I will not try 4th picture.
I hope this problem will not continue .. :(
Is there anyone experienced similar problem with Blogger?
cheers - feyza
